A Horse of a Different Color storefront in Naples, Florida

Est. 1987 · Naples, Florida

Nearly forty years of finding
the perfect gift.

We started as a little shop with a big idea — that giving a gift should feel as good as receiving one.

Our Story

How it started

In 1991, Virginia De La Chapelle, a retail veteran with an eye for beautiful things, had an idea: open a boutique gift shop with items worth giving. Along with her husband Norman (a retired corporate executive turned entrepreneur) and their daughter Julie, they opened the doors on Third Street South with carefully curated collections of imported gifts and home décor.

They moved to the Village in 1996 and have been our neighbors on Gulf Shore Boulevard ever since. Julie's husband Tom joined the business, and over decades they built something rare — a shop where customers become friends, where every item on the shelf is hand-picked, and where gift wrapping isn't an add-on, it's a promise.

Today, Tom and Julie run the store with the same philosophy: nothing gets on our shelves unless we'd give it ourselves. Every customer matters, whether you've been shopping here for 25 years or it's your first visit.

What We Stand For

The things we won't compromise on

Hand-selected, always

Every item we carry is chosen by someone on our team. If we wouldn't give it ourselves, it doesn't make the cut.

Gift wrapping included

We've wrapped gifts since day one. It's part of what we do. A gift isn't complete until it's wrapped with care.

We remember you

After 35 years, many customers are friends. We remember what you love, who you're shopping for, and what worked last year.

Local, through and through

We're a Naples business in a community we love. We show up for this town because this town has shown up for us.
